Galloway Magic Mile Calculation

Now that I've actually done a mile time test (and I wasn't even going all out!) I can actually do the Galloway Magic Mile Thing.

Mile Time: 7:58
5k Pace: 8:31 min/mile (26:24) <--I'm going to test this this weekend!
10k Pace: 9:10 min/mile (56:48)
Half-Marathon Pace: 9:34 min/mile (2:05:14)
Marathon Pace: 10:21 min/mile (4:31:21)
Marathon Training Pace: 12:21 min/mile (5:23:45)

I think I'm aiming for a 5:30 or less marathon. That goal will most likely change as the marathon gets closer since it's so far away but it's nice to have a goal in mind to work toward. I'd like to say my goal is to "just finish" but unfortunately the Chicago marathon has a 6:30 time limit and at 6:30 CLOCK time the course shuts down. Since it's probably going to take close to a half hour to cross the start line, that only leaves 6 hrs before the course shuts down. If I'm aiming for 5:30, there's not a lot of wiggle room! Eeeks!

  2. Just saw your comment, yes I do feel accomplished. And like I can eat anything I want. No excuses. That's the best part! Did you do a recovery type run today? I really didn't want to but I'm so glad I did.

  3. Thanks for the support Lauren! It means a lot. The shins were killing me today (being 12hrs on my feet didn't help!) I also have the Galloway book, but am waiting to be able to run "fully" before I can do the mile test and all the rest... Keep up the good work!

  6. p.s. I did Galloway for my first marathon and clocked 5:35. Went in with no goal other than to just finish and I had one hell of a time. I was also able to walk the next day. Double win!!!

  7. I *think* the 6 1/2 hour time limit is from when the last person crosses the start (I don't think it'd be fair to penalize someone for the time to get to the start line)...so you may actually have more breathing room!! then again, for all you know by the time race day comes around you may have an even faster goal to chase down :) best of luck to you with training...c-ya in Chi-town :)
