Long Run

I completed my long run yesterday (8 miles) at around a 12:20 pace which I'm ecstatic at. I'm ecstatic not because the pace was so awesome (it wasn't lol) but because my IT band, while it definitely didn't feel good, didn't hurt so bad I was limping at any given time (like last time). I contribute this to stretching and buying an IT band compression strap (see pic below).

The run was super fun, I brought along a friend who normally does my 3 miles in the morning with me. I told her she could definitely complete this since we were running 2 min/walking 1 min the entire time and going pretty slow. She felt great afterward and that was just icing on the cupcake :)

I don't know how it works but going for a run with someone in the morning just makes my mood so good for the rest of the day. We joked and laughed for an hour and a half and I swear I was giddy for at least 5 hours afterward. At one point I had to run back to the car to get some more water in my water bottles and we got there a little before our scheduled walk break so we decided to run circles around the parking lot until my gymboss timer told us to walk. Running circles then turned into us running in circles with our arms extended out to the sides making airplane noises and pretending we were fighter jets. Took me right back to first grade. Dont' get me wrong, I love running with music, I really do. But there's something about being a complete goof with a friend for an hour and a half that you can't replace with an ipod.

To all those "running buddies" out there (mine or anyone who is a running buddy to someone else), your role is so important, never underestimate the joy and inspiration you bring :D.

  1. Aww... great quote! And that's awesome that the IT band strap is enabling you to run.

I know what you mean I turn into a COMPLETE goof when my runs reach about....8 miles.
I do think there is a "runners high" where you feel like you could run forever.
But there's another one where you are just about to explode with happiness. I suffer from that after long runs. IT'S AMAZING. During or right after a long run my conversation abilities get pretty ADD. I've been told it's funny ;)

  2. Awesome 8miler! So fun to run with a friend/running buddy. Mine hasn't been able to run with me for a few weeks cause of school. But we talk at least every few days and I call her after every run I do to recap! :D

  3. Great job!

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I'm very excited to run Chicago, I just have moments of doubt. I don't have a plan yet, but my dad is a tri-coach so he always gives me the hookup! :)

Right now I'm just working on building my base back up without pain!

  4. Amen! Running buddies are great!

And I've been having some last minute (before the race) ITB issues too. I might have to get one of those straps tomorrow when I work at the running store!
