First Long Run with Group

This morning was the first long run with my marathon training group. It was pretty fun. Next time I think I might bring my ipod to listen to in ONE ear (I saw some doing that today). At some points when I didn't feel like talking it got kind of boring to be without music. It was nice having water stops hosted by the group and not having to carry my fuel belt!

The group was supposed to be going 10. I went 12 because I just felt like and I wanted to get in some extra miles for the week. I had a discussion with the group leader/coach after the run because I felt like I was going to have a hard time sticking to the schedule (and just doing the required miles on teh long runs). He helped me see WHY we have shorter-longer runs and WHY I should stick to the schedule. I'm glad I did. From now on I'm going to stick to the scheduled run. On another note.. no more weeks under 20 miles until after the marathon :D. I'm pretty excited.

Oh and I met like 4 other people in my group running Chicago! Very cool :D

  1. I think it's a balance between doing what you feel will challenge you AND having a level-head about what is too much or just gratuitous mileage. Last summer, I started out running slightly more than my plan called for, but by the end, I was able to stick to it fairly well.

  3. Ahhh sorry! I've gotten so behind on commenting on your blog. I've actually read all your recent posts on my Blackberry Storm, but it's a pain to comment on that thing. So, I'm just now getting around to it.

I find your posts about the running group SUPER interesting... b/c I've yet to find the courage to try one of these. Awesome job on the 12 mile run. Sometimes I'll do one headphone if I'm talking to someone on the treadmill next to me. Works pretty well!
