Mesa Mi Amigs 10k Turkey Trot Race Report

Whooo that was a long title! So, this race was great. I put my garmin to only show me distance and then just ran my race. However, around mile 2 I did kinda find someone who I thought was holding a good pace and then followed them through the rest of the race. I think I just... do better with pacers :D. He may have been creeped out, I know he looked behind him a few times and I was always there! But his sweatshirt said "coach 2010 softball team" so I'm telling myself that he likes leading people ;)

The only thing I didn't like about this race was the finish, up this little tiny winding path that could only fit 2 people wide. There were 2000 people in this race! The conditions were hardly conducive to an ending "push" so I just ran the finish as fast as I could. When I crossed the finish line and actually checked my time I was shocked...

Official chip time was: 53:58! First 10k ever and under 9min/miles the entire time. I was hoping (like fantasy-goal-ing) for 9 minutes miles so the fact that i beat my "reach goal" is amazing. I'm super excited for the half marathon next weekend (OUC). I'm going to do the same thing, set the watch at distance only and find a good pacer :).

Is that cheating in your opinion? Tagging behind someone? Would it annoy you?

Oh, and it was cold, and perfect, and well perfectly awesome :D

  5. Well done! That's a pretty good time, particularly for your first 10K. I've only done three 10Ks but I'm thinking of running another one. They're fun!

No, it's called racing!! If the person doesn't like it, it is their job to either slow down so you pass or blow your doors off. Congrats on the sub 9 race

  8. Congratulations, and no, that's not cheating at all! I think it's called STRATEGY!

  9. Wow, congratulations on the PR (automatic PR, but still AWESOME!!!)! Your strategy definitely worked. It's not cheating to pace behind someone, though if you repeatedly step on that person's heels, s/he might get annoyed...?
