I guess since it's past midnight there's technically only 4 days left until this dang marathon. I'm trippin. Seriously trippin. All my runner friends have warned me about the mysterious taper elves who come grab your hamstrings and other muscles during taper, but I still freak out every time I have a random cramp. Anyway, so much to do, so little time.
But, the main reason for this post. Finally finished my marathon playlist tonight. The playlist is based on 5mph (the slowest my training runs have been). There are areas to cut it short if I need to if I'm really surpassing that. I thought putting it into stages would help me break the marathon up into bite sized chunks. Six of them to be exact. Did I mention I like numbers? Yeah... I'm an auditor.
Anyway, the "stages" of the playlist are;
1.) First 50 minutes (guessing miles 1-4.5ish) - slow songs that make me feel good but not "too" good. Meant to keep me at a normal pace and enjoying my "jog" at this point. Country, alternative, soft rock. I'll know this stage is over when I hear my first hip/hop song ("Nice & Slow" by Usher)
2.) Next 90 minutes (guessing miles 4.5-12ish) - fun songs from my past or just feel good hip hop songs that'll make me smile, but again, nothing too motivating here. Trying to keep the feeling light and airy.I'll know this stage is over when I hear my first "serious" song ("Resistence" by Drake)
3.) Next 52 minutes (12ish - 16ish) - This is my contemplative, transition phase. These songs are slow, but serious. Meant to set a mood for the next part of my run. Get me prepared to be in the zone, but not too much in the zone yet. I'll know this phase is over when I hear my first Eminem song ("When I'm gone")
4.) Next 34 minutes (Miles 16ish-18.8ish) - This is my Eminem interlude. Yes, every race needs an eminem interlude in my opinion and this is mine. This is the start of the "okay it's alright to get in the mood now" phase. If I'm feeling super speedy at this point I may go ahead and skip the Eminem interlude, or some parts of it. This is where I can cut my playlist down. I'll know this is over when I hear... duh... a song NOT by Eminem ("Racks" by YC)
5.) Next 26 minutes (Miles 18.8ish - 21ish) - This is my "get in the mood" phase. A couple of my favorites, that'll put a pep in my step but not make me like... grit my teeth and start pushing yet. Again, depending on how fast I'm going, this phase can be cut short too. I'll know this phase is over when I hear my first "Kick it" song ("Written in the Stars" by Tinie Tempah)
6.) Last hour (Miles 21ish- 26ish) - This is my "push it" phase. All songs in this phase always make me go faster in my training runs. These are the songs I've used as finishers in my 5k's, and 10k's and half marathons in the past. Hopefully these songs will give me what i need to finish strong.

WOW! You really have this planned out! Awesome! I love that you have Eminem for miles 16-19. His music always gets me motivated with sort of a hard-ass attitude. Almost like "F the pain; I'm a badass!"
