One Year Check-Up - Stats!

Jason King - Awesome!
I started with my personal trainer (Jason King - Signature Fitness in Orlando) a year ago. Quick shout out to Jason - he's awesome and I'd recommend him if you need a low stress trainer.

Measurements!
Anyway, we took measurements and all that fun stuff a year and a half ago (November 2011) and I was 119 pounds and 18.6% body fat. We did measurements again today (a year later) and I'm 113 pounds and 18.6% body fat. He told me that 18.6% is really good but of course, being an auditor I decided to do some research on my own.

My research resulted in the the following;

By this chart I am considered in the "Athlete" range (pretty appropriate I think :D)

By this chart i'm considered "Lean" (I'm 23 years old)...

My own conclusion?
Given his conclusion and my own research I'm pretty darn happy where I am! Kinda stinks I've lost muscle mass (given that my body fat% is the same but I'm 6 pounds lighter) than a year and a half ago. However, given the increased mileage I'm thinking that's to be expected. We (Jason and I) chatted a bit about what I could do to gain some of the muscle mass back and it would really take some conscious effort on my part to increase my calories and gain weight, which, I'm not sure I really want to do. So... I'm going to focus on maintaining and perhaps building my strength and just letting my weight fall where it will.

Not weighing myself?
Maddy over at "Maddy Runs" (http://www.maddyruns.com/) had this great idea of not weighing ourselves in 2013. I jumped on the bandwagon immediately because weighing myself obsessively has been a problem in the past. I threw out my scale last week (Thanks Maddy!) and haven't had any impulses to go buy a new one yet, and that makes me pretty happy. Although I was weighed at the personal trainer's office, I don't consider this a "failed" goal because it wasn't me weighing myself and it was for legitimate purposes (having a baseline for 2013 and measuring body fat). I'm excited to see the peace of mind that will result from not being tied to a scale every morning :D.

Hope you all are having a great week!

  2. Sounds really good, Lauren. I don't really weigh myself because I feel like that can become a slippery slope very quickly so I try to just pay attention to how my body feels. You've definitely had an awesome year of running. You're doing great and definitely an athlete!!

  3. I don't own a scale but I'm considering getting one. I used to weigh myself occasionally on the scale at my gym but I don't go to that gym anymore and my new gym doesn't have one (as far as I've seen so far). There is one in my locker room at work but it doesn't work properly. I don't think I'd become a slave to it though... plus I really want to be able to weigh my puppy easily. We have no idea how much she weighs right now!

  4. WOW!! You are not going to weigh all year? I don't know if I could handle that?? Well.... now that I think about it I would probably have a lot less rollar coaster days if I didn't weigh all the time. I use to weigh myself several, I mean several times a day but now I have it better under control. I will really have to consider this. Thanks for the idea!!
